With the year drawing to a close, we all start to look toward the new year. Many of us make resolutions and set goals for the upcoming year. These goals often involve fitness, but have you ever considered setting some safety and insurance goals for the coming year?

Here’s a few ideas that can help make your home, auto and family safer over the coming twelve months, and might just save you some money as well!

1.) Improve Those Grades Before the School Year Ends – many insurance companies offer a good student discount on auto insurance. If your student is close to qualifying, a little push early in the year could get those grades up high enough to qualify. The savings can be significant. Contact Hurley Insurance to find out more.

2.) Research Insurance Rates Before You Shop for a Car – at the dealership is not the time to think about how much that new vehicle is going to cost to insure. Take your time, do your research, and contact before you go to make a deal so we can give you an idea of what that new investment is going to cost.

3.) Clean Your Gutters – If you didn’t clear out the leaves in the fall, take advantage of the mild winter we seem to be having and get those gutters cleaned out. Winter ice dams and spring overflows are often caused by clogged gutters. Clogged or improperly routed gutters are one of the major reasons for water damage claims.

4.) Take an Inventory – Did you and your significant other exchange jewelry gifts for Christmas? The value of the jewelry in your home can sneak up on you over the years, and most insurance policies have a limit on how much they will pay for jewelry. Adding additional coverage is simple and relatively inexpensive, so make sure you know your jewelry limits and know how much your existing jewelry is worth. Contact us to find out how much coverage your current policy offers or to increase your limits.

5.) Stock Your Car – Make sure every vehicle in your household has an emergency kit in it. A decent one will cost <$50 and will include jumper cables, flares, emergency blankets, a first kit and other useful items. If your children have a car at school, make sure their vehicle has one as well.

6.) Update Your Life Insurance – have your needs changed or assets increased? Have you stopped smoking or lost weight? Now is a good time to go through your existing life insurance policies and see if you need to increase, or decrease, coverage and if you might qualify for better rates. Give us a call and we can help you through this.

These are just a few things to put on your 2016 list of things to do. Hurley Insurance recommends you print out this list and take care of them right away.
